E-commerce Development for Grasscity (Magento 2)
Grasscity.com is one of the most successful online headshops today with a thriving counterculture community forum of more than half a million members!
In the beginning, it was a small website that sold smoking accessories and provided Amsterdam tourism information. With the multi-store architecture and multi-currency capabilities of Magento, Grasscity found it easy to sell online and expand their business. And now it’s an international company that ships worldwide.
Our cooperation with Grasscity started in 2016 from developing Responsive Web Design (RWD) Theme for Magento Enterprise ver.1.13.0.2 based on provided by Grasscity wireframes and PSD files with design elements of the store. Then were:
- Shipping design and functionality
- Shipment methods customization
- Cart design and functionality
- Checkout design and functionality
- Store Switcher
- Multistore Products Management
- Tax Rules and Classes Management
- Different Prices for different Stores
- Managing Customers and Orders from a different store
- Managing Static Content
- ERP Integration
In 2018 High Tide Inc. acquires Grasscity. At that moment Grasscity was planning migration to Magento 2 and they needed to make it as soon as possible. We couldn’t meet required terms, so they hired other companies for that task.
That migration was really harmful for the Grasscity:
- 30% drop in sales due to poor website performance
- Organic traffic drop
- UI/UX doesn't meet customer expectation
And in 2019 we start our cooperation again.

Please describe your company and your position there.
Our online store Eva.ua sells cosmetics, perfumes and home care products. We are one of the largest online stores in Ukraine in terms of attendance and sales.
For what projects/services did your company hire Eltrino?
WEB development and support our online store Eva.ua
What were your goals for this project?
The main tasks of the project: 1. Take first place in your niche in sales and traffic. 2. Give our customer the maximum level of service (on the site and in delivery).
How did you select this vendor?
We organized a tender, among some companies Eltrino won.
Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.
We felt the professionalism of this company, even at the start of the project, Eltrino set the condition that a full audit should be carried out and only further results should be planned for the development of the project. Then a very competent team was selected, which can be trusted in evaluating the tasks and the quality of their implementation. We are constantly in contact with the whole team and every day we know what it is working on, which gives transparency in the relationship between us. We have been working together for less than a year, but during this time the team completed a huge number of tasks.
What was the team composition?
Our project is written in Magento 2. Since we are a large online store, we have a lot of development tasks. We built the team this way: The total number is 10 people. 1 - team leader, 7 - developer backend, 2 - developer front
Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?
Our online store has improved greatly in technical terms, and we felt the same in sales.Conversion increased 2 times
How was project management arranged and how effective was it?
An excellent team was chosen for us, then we independently manage it.
What did you find most impressive about this company?

Are there any areas for improvement?
No.

Magento Redesign and Version Ugrade for Auto Parts Store
“They’re very knowledgeable about Magento and they have a large back-bench to pull talent from…”

Please describe your company and your position there.
I’m the Director of Technology for The Eastwood Company. We provide automotive tools and supplies to DIY enthusiasts through B2C, e-commerce catalog and retail sales.
For what projects/services did your company hire Eltrino?
We needed to redesign our website and do a major upgrade to our Magento shopping cart software.
What were your goals for this project?
We wanted a picture-perfect layout based on provided mockups, porting of all custom code, and a faster web experience.
How did you select this vendor?
We’d been working with Eltrino on maintenance of our Magento store prior to this project but we did evaluate other outside help. Given their comfort with our team and pricing, we chose them to do the redesign and upgrade.
Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?
Our customizations to Magento were numerous, from inventory, to special shipping considerations, to the core code. They started with a fresh install of Magento, applied code changes, and adjusted themes to match mockups. We were also switching from enterprise edition to community edition with this project.
What was the team composition?
Besides the two founders we talked to, there was an account manager and several developers working on the project.
Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?
We accomplished a full site refresh and version upgrade within three months, which is unheard of for a company our size. The new site performed well and the new navigation and page layouts helped keep visitors on-site and buying from us.
How was project management arranged and how effective was it?
We had weekly calls, used their Zendesk ticketing system, and communicated over email. While we'd probably use Teamwork today, Zendesk worked well at the time, and Eltrino was responsive to communications at all times. We were under a tight deadline and they got the job done on-time.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
They’re very knowledgeable about Magento and they have a large back-bench to pull talent from when it’s needed. From hard-core coding to design tasks, they have the needed staff.
Are there any areas where they can improve?
They could move to another time zone, but they handle the time difference well and maintain quick responses during normal business hours Eastern Standard Time.

Magento Development and Support for Online Retailer
“They react quickly and we can call them anytime.”

the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the COO of an e-commerce website. I make sure everything is going according to plan.
What challenge were you trying to address with Eltrino?
We were running on Magento and since we began with it, we’ve done a lot of customization in the shop which has left it very unstable and made it very difficult to work on. We had to make it more user-friendly, give it a nicer design, and make it more mobile friendly.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We always make changes to our website to make it better, more user-friendly, to adapt to new standards, and to stay ahead of the competition.
This was a big project, which they did a lot of. The design was done by another company and they worked alongside that other company to implement it and make it mobile friendly. They also take care of everyday chores, including making sure that the shop keeps turning and doing any required customization. If we go to a new payment provider, they make sure it works correctly.
More recently, they worked on full page caching. At the moment we have a sale and when you don’t have full-page caching when lots of people browse the shop, we lose revenue. They fixed this for us in a very short period of time.
What is the team composition?
We’re in direct contact with the developers and regular contact with the CEO. We also have an account manager from time to time.
How did you come to work with Eltrino?
I shortlisted three candidates for the job, then we decided to go with Eltrino.
How much have you invested in them?
We’ve invested between $100,000–$200,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in July 2016 and the work is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We haven’t had any major bugs.
How did Eltrino perform from a project management standpoint?
In the beginning, we used Trello. We now use Slack as our main communication channel and currently Jira to track the work.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The direct contact we have with their technical people has been great. If we implement something that’s quite dangerous after testing it, we need to be able to follow up through the night, which is something we have loved. They react quickly and we can call them anytime. They offer excellent value for the price.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No. I can’t think of anything that would make their work more effective or better in any way.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
You have to look at how your own company is built and whether there are technical people in your company, who do you want to communicate with, if you need an account manager, or have the knowledge to be able to communicate directly with the technical team. In general, we have already directed a couple of businesses to them because they do a really good job, and I haven’t heard any negative feedback.
The project was a success. The team completed the tasks on time and in line with the budget. Eltrino demonstrated their effective communication skills and expertise in the industry.
